After a long day, you’re happy to be back in your suite.   You stretch out your arms as you relax on your canopy bed, curled up with your favorite book.  Your crown was placed on the stand next to your bed, and your scepter was leaning against it.  Your shoes were right next to your bed, freeing your aching feet, and your hair was undone and draped loosely against your face and shoulders.  What more, your dress was hanging in the closet and you were in your favorite night gown.  The only royal attire you had left on you was your diamond necklace which you refused to remove.

Look at you; only the young age of 16 and already you’re the queen of your very own kingdom.  You had a large castle that most girls could only dream of having, all the money you could want, a city full of citizens who revered you as their ruler…

… not to mention the all-male staff.

To think that just a few weeks ago, you were just an ordinary girl, living a regular life.  You laugh a bit at the memory, looking back on it…

--FLASHBACK--

“Come on, _________,” you hear your best friend Alfred calling out to you, “Come play with us!”

“No thanks, Alfred,” you say in response, looking back at him with some of your other friends waving you over to join in one of their games, “I’m kinda busy tonight.”

“Aww, you’re always busy!” Alfred complains, “You need to relax every once in a while, you know.”

“I promised my dad I’d help clean out the attic.  Sorry.”

“Alright.  See ya tomorrow!”  Alfred waved goodbye before running back to join his friends.  You simply walked home.

You lived a simple life in a small town.  It wasn’t much, but it was home. You were about an average girl; you didn’t stand out much, though you’ve done several attempts to stand out from the crowd.  Frankly, you hated your boring life.  I mean, your hometown was one of the best places you knew, but hardly anything ever happened where you were. You always dreamed of living in a much larger place one day.

It didn’t take long to get to your small house. It was just a small place on a street on the edge of town.  It was small, but you guessed it was nice for its size.  You head into the door, already seeing the ladder to the attic in front of you.  You look up, hearing some grunts coming from up there.

“Hey, _________!” you hear your dad calling, “Come up here!”

You set your books down and climbed the ladder, up into the dank, dark, dusty attic.  You notice your father already heaving a large box.  As it slips out of his fingers and drops to the floor, a large cloud of dust floats in the air.  You accidentally inhale a bit of it, and cough violently for a few seconds.

“Sorry,” your father said, “There’s just so many things up here, _________.”

“Aside from dust?” you say, your coughs calming down.

“Yeah… about that, here.” Your father hands you a mask which you quickly put on, “That should make it a little easier.”

“Thanks… so where should I look?”

“Oh, you can start anywhere you’d like!”

You sigh as you head over to one of the far ends of the attic, hoping to find something worth your while.  What on earth could be in this place that’d be of interest?  You sigh as you get to work.  There were boxes full of old clothes, old broken appliances, and books galore. Soon you’re almost finished as you make your way to an old trunk.  You shove off the boxes on top of it, watching as they fall onto the floor with a loud “THUD.”  You undo the single large latch and open it.  Almost immediately, you’re greeted by the side of large, old books… and more dust.  As interesting as the thought of reading literature from who knows how long ago was, you decided against it.  You’re about to close it when you notice something shining from the bottom of the chest.  Carefully, you reach your hand down between the two rows of books, until you feel something soft and velvety between your fingers.  You grab the object and take it out.

You’re surprised to see that it’s some sort of jewelry box that you fish out.  The box was lined with soft purple velvet, and the trim was of gold thread.  At the center of the cover of the box was the remains of someone’s name in gold thread.  You brush some of the dust off of it, finding a tiny button at the center.  Pressing it, you hear it click as the box unlocks and opens. You could hardly believe your eyes.  Inside the box was the most beautiful diamond necklace you had ever seen.  The chain was made of small diamonds and held together with silver. The three diamonds at the very center were large and shone beautifully even in the darkness of your attic.  You feel the centermost and largest diamond; it felt smooth against your fingertips.

“Well, did you find anything?” you hear your father ask.  You immediately hide the necklace behind your back.

“Oh, nothing, daddy!... Uh, I just realized, I have a lot of homework tonight and I need to get started,” you reply nervously.

“Alright, _________,” he says to you with a smile, “You have fun, then!”

“Alright… see ya,” you say as you leave the attic and head to your room with your things and the necklace.  You locked your door behind you and sit on your bed, staring at the necklace.  The diamonds glimmered in the light of the afternoon sunset so beautifully you couldn’t take your eyes off of it.  Of all the things you expected to find in your attic, this was definitely not one of them.

“…_________...”

You suddenly hear an eerie voice call your name.  You lift your head and look around.  “Who’s there?”  you ask.

“_________...”

The voice again.  Your attention focuses back on the necklace… was it glowing a second ago?

“_________... I have waited for you for so long…”

“Huh?...” you cocked an eyebrow.   Was the necklace… talking to you?  “Who are you?... And how am I talking to you?”

“I am a Spirit, __________.  I have been trapped in this necklace for a thousand years waiting for you…”

“Why were you waiting for me?...”

“I have waited for you… to become my successor…”

“What are you talking about?”  You were starting to think this was some sort of prank as you inspect the necklace in your hands for some sort of microphone.

“I was once queen of all the land… however, my mistakes in life lead me to my eventual death and imprisonment in my own necklace… You are my descendant, destined to revive my kingdom and bring about a global empire… and I know you won’t make the same mistakes I made in life…”

“Okay, hold on hold on,” now you KNEW this had to be some sort of joke, “Look, as interesting as this sounds, how do I know this isn’t some sort of prank?  Did my dad set you up for this?”

“I had a feeling you’d say that… just put on the necklace and all will be explained…”

You take a long, good look at the necklace.  You weren’t sure if the voice’s words were true or that if you should put the necklace on.  For all you knew this was a prank from your father or one of your friends.  As far as you knew, necklaces couldn’t talk or hold spirits of queens promising power.

Still, it WAS just a necklace.  It wasn’t like it could kill you.  What was the harm?  You unclip the necklace and bring it around your neck behind your (color) hair… however, before you could clip it on, it seems to do that all by itself as the chain suddenly slips out of your hands.  You take a look at yourself in the mirror.  The necklace hung perfectly around your neck, the crystals shining beautifully.  Almost the very instant you look at the large diamond in the middle, you see it change color from clear to (color).  The instant it did, you freeze in place.

“Now, ___________,” the voice said in your mind, “Let my power seep through you.  Let it fill your soul and grant you everything you desire… you’ve wanted this.  You’ve ALWAYS wanted this…”

As you listen more and more to the spirit’s words, your mind starts feeling rather hazy.  Your body relaxes as you feel the haziness spread through your body.  The world around you seems to melt away as you’re shown the history of a vast empire.  A large castle in a large city, an entire population revering a familiar looking queen, an entire staff of servants willing to do anything she told them – and by anything she MEANT anything – and several countries falling to their knees for her.  As you saw all of this, you could feel something strange course through your veins – a strange, powerful force that engulfed you.  The more you gave in to the strange power, the better you felt and the stronger it got.  Your lips curl into a wicked grin as dark thoughts invade your mind.

“Rest, Queen _________,” the voice said, “Tomorrow will be a big day…”

You fell back onto your bed, and almost immediately fall into a deep, dreamless sleep.

--

You awaken the following morning stretching your arms like a cat and yawning.  You got up from your bed and looked at yourself in the mirror.  Looking into it, you smile at the beautiful necklace on your neck.  You slip out of the clothes you wore yesterday and slip on a bathrobe, heading to your bathroom for a shower.  After words, you head back to your bedroom and reached into your closet, picking out a lovely dress that matched the necklace.  You slip the dress on, admiring how it looks on you.  You truly looked like royalty in the dress – all that was missing was a crown and scepter, but you’ll get those later.

“I’m heading out!”  you say to your parents as you leave the house.  It was Saturday, and you knew precisely where each and every one of your friends was today.  You walked down the sidewalk with a proud smile on your face.  “Alfred’s the closest… I think I’ll visit him first,” You say to yourself.  Within about 5 minutes, you soon arrive at your friend’s house.  You notice that Arthur’s and Francis’s cars were in the driveway and smirk.  This should make your job much easier.   And if Francis was there, then chances were Matthew was as well.  You let out a quiet giggle as you make your way up to the driveway and to the front door.  Your finger presses the doorbell and you wait for it to open.

“WOAH!” Alfred said as he saw you at the door, “What’s with the getup?”

“Oh, I just felt like dressing up a bit,” you say with a coy grin.

“Well, come in,” Alfred invites you inside, “What brings you here?”

You step into the house, “Oh nothing… just thought I’d stop by for a visit.”

Francis and England look back from the couch they were sitting on, noticing you.  They both got up and approached you.

“Why, hello, Mademoiselle,” Francis greeted you in his usual way, “You look lovely today.”

“Yes.  I must say I’ve never seen you like this before,” England said in surprise, “Is there a special occasion today?”

“Well…” you giggle, “An occasion of sorts.”

“What is it?”

You step forward a bit, your back turned to the three of them as you adjust your necklace.

“Yes, Queen _________,” the voice spoke in your head again, “Make them yours…”

You twirl around, facing them again, your necklace gleaming brightly.  The trio gasped in surprise as their gaze was caught in the necklace, staring at the (color) diamond.  They froze in place as they started to feel themselves slipping away.  The light of the diamond flooded their vision as they stared into the beautiful light.  For a few seconds, they had even forgotten how to breath as they suddenly feel weirdly lightheaded.  Their pupils shrank to the size of pinheads.  Any sort of emotion or desire they initially had was melting away… and replaced by something else.  A desire for control… A desire to BE controlled...  To serve… To serve only one person…

… you.

Once the light faded, the three of them kneeled down to you.  “What is it you desire,” they spoke in unison, “My Queen?”

An evil, sickening grin spread on your face ear to ear.  “Everything…”

--

“Your majesty?”  a voice snaps you out of your thoughts, “You wanted to see me?”  You turn to see your advisor, (country), in the doorway.  His (color) eyes were rather dulled under your spell, but they still had a sort of brilliance to them.

“Ah, (country),” you sat up on your bed, walking over to him and setting the book down, “What are the plans for the invasion?”

“We will start the invasion of the east in precisely twelve hours.  We’ve got our best men just outside the border.”

“Perfect… in that case it should go just as planned.”

“Is there anything else I can do for you?”

“Hmmm…” another grin formed on your face, “Well… I am feeling just a LITTLE bit… tense…”

“Tense?”

“Tense would be a word for it…” you walk away and back over to your bed, “I’m hoping that you could… relieve me a bit…”

(Country) gasped somewhat, understanding what you were asking for, “But, your majesty… I’m simply your advisor! I shouldn’t…”

“Oh…” your necklace gleamed a bit, “But I insist… I am ruler of this land.  And soon I’ll have the world.  Who would object?...”

(Country) was silent, before finally approaching you.  “Yes, your majesty… I’ll do whatever you say…”

You smirked as you wrapped your arms around his neck and planted your lips upon his lips.  (Country) held you close to you as he lowered you back onto the bed.

It was going to be one wild night.
