Literature Text

Face it; it’s not fun being the new kid in school.  You had just moved into a new neighborhood and you had zilch friends there.  You did well in classes, but you were also a target for some of the schools bullies, the worst one being this one boy you utterly despised: Derek.  Derek was pretty much your average school bully; white shirt, leather jacket, greasy hair, and all.  Whenever he saw you in the halls he’d always throw your text books out of your hands and make you play “52 Card Pick Up” with your papers.  Most of the other bullies, including the two in Derek’s posse, Austin and Forest, just name called.
Still, you tried to make the best of it.   You had a pair of loving parents and some nice teachers, your new school wasn’t too far from your house, and soon you hear another new kid was coming to the school.  Maybe this was a chance to finally make a friend!
However, when you DO finally find out who he is… needless to say you’re rather nervous.  For whatever reason, weather it was how freakishly tall he was, the fact that he was probably the only one you knew to have nearly snow-white hair, the creepy aura most students get around him, or the rumor that he kept a pipe with a sink tap attached to it on him at all times, you tried to stay away from him as much as possible.  Probably even more than Derek.  Speaking of which, Derek never seemed to bother him much either.  You’d hear him say you could take the new kid in a fight, but you doubted it.
One day, you’re on your way to class when you see Derek and his posse picking on one of the school nerds.
“But this is all I have!” the nerd says.
“Don’t care, nerd!” Derek taunts him, “Now gimme your cash!”
“Okay, okay!” the nerd pleads, handing him some money in his pocket.
“That’s it!?” Derek says, as if he was shocked, “Boys, shake him!”
You knew what this was going to lead to.  You couldn’t let them do that to the poor kid!  Immediately you head to the classroom.
“SIR!” you call to the teacher, “Derek’s shaking one of the kids!  Help!”
The teacher runs out of the classroom to see Forest and Austin holding the poor nerd by his ankles and shaking him to see if he had any spare change in his pockets.
“Derek!  Austin!  Forest!” the teacher yells, “Put the kid down!”
The three boys stop, quickly setting down the nerd, who quickly gets up and scampers away.
“To the principal’s office, now!”  The teacher commands.
You feel satisfied after helping the student out.  As he walks away, however, Derek shoots you a nasty look, as if to say “You’re a dead girl, _________.”  You didn’t care and simply head back to class.
However, as you’re getting ready, you can’t help but see the new student from the corner of your eye, smiling at you.
--
Soon, it’s the end of the day, and you’re on your way home.  Most of the kids would usually take the bus home, but you preferred to walk.  Your house wasn’t too far away and it was a nice day anyways.  You quickly find your way to the alley way you took home.  Your parents would usually prefer you took the bus along with the other kids since they thought it was dangerous, but you didn’t think so.  You had been on this path several times before and not once had anything happen to you…
… until today.
“Hey, Snitch!” you hear from behind you.  You look back to see Derek, Austin, and Forest right behind you.
“Thanks for ratting us out and getting us suspended!” Derek mocked.
“Did you guys follow me here!?” you say, shocked.
“No shit!” Austin answers.
“You know, I gotta hand it to you,” Derek said, him and his posse getting closer as you tried to back away, “You’ve got a lot of guts using a place like this to walk home.”
“I’d say she’s got no brains!” Forest taunts.  The three of them laugh at that.
“Yeah, I’d say it’s that!” Austin agrees.
“Looks who’s talking…” you say under your breath, before suddenly tripping.  You feel some pain from your hand suddenly as it landed on a piece of shattered glass.  Derek quickly picks you up and pins you to the wall.
“So boys,” Derek turns to his posse as you try to get out of his grip, “What do you say _________ deserves for being a little tattle-tale?”
“I’d say she deserves a visit from Martha!”  Austin answers.
“And maybe a little bit from Angie, too!” Forest includes.
“Good choice, boys!” Derek praises, them, “Hold her down!”
“Martha” and “Angie” were the names given for a pair of brass knuckles Derek owned.  Where he got them from, you didn’t know.  Either way, Derek quickly drops you.  You land with a thud on the ground.  You try to get away, but Austin and Forest both grab one of your arms and keep you still against the wall.  Derek slips on the knuckles, admiring them for a few seconds.
“Alright… so, how many sockings to the face should I give you?” Derek asks you, now getting rather close.  You spit in his face in retort.  He backs up and wipes the spit off his face.
“That’s the last mistake you make!” Derek says, raising a fist ready to punch you.  You quickly close your eyes tight, preparing for the blow.
“I suggest you put her down, da,” someone suddenly says.  All four of you turn your heads to see someone walk into the ally way; it was the new kid!
“The hell are you doing here, freak!?” Derek states.
“I said, I suggest you put her down, da,” the man repeats, getting closer.
“Oh yeah!?” Derek says, “And what if we don’t!?”
“I’ll have to take care of you personally…”
“Keep her still, boys!  This one’s mine!” Derek orders Austin and Forest, approaching the tall student, knuckles at the ready.
“Very well,” he says.
Derek immediately charges at the student, throwing a punch right at his face, but the student simply catches the flying fist in a tight grip.
“What the-“ Derek tries to get out of the man’s grasp, but couldn’t.  You see the grip on the fist tighten.
“What are you doing, you freak!?  You’re gonna break my hand!” Derek pleaded.  You were shock to see him at someone’s mercy.
“Perhaps I should break the other one too, da” the student says, “For good measure?”
“Austin!  Forest!  Help me!” Derek calls out, “Forget the girl! Just help me”!
Immediately, Austin and Forest drop you simultaneously.  You land on the ground with a thud.  Dizzy from impact, you turn to see the two head to Derek’s aid, but the tall mysterious stranger deals with them with a swift swing of his arm.
It didn’t take long for you to finally hear the audible sound of bones cracking.
“STOP STOP STOP!” Derek shouts in pain.  The giant lets him go.
“Let’s just get out of here!” Derek says to his posse.  The three of them quickly run out of the alley.
The student who had saved you walks over to you, holding out a hand.
“Are you okay?” he asks, “They didn’t hurt you, did they, da?”
“No, they didn’t…” You answer, taking his hand as he helped you stand back up, “Thanks for saving me.”
“You’re welcome,” he answers, “What’s your name?”
“Um… _________,” you answer.
“Nice to meet you, _________,” he answers with a pleasant smile on his face, “I’m Russia.”
You finally notice the cut on your hand.  It was already bleeding.
“Oh dear!” Russia exclaims, “Your hand is bleeding!”
“This must’ve been from that glass…” You say, covering your hand trying to stop the bleeding.
“Should I take you home, da?” Russia asks.
You think about it.  On one hand, you saw what Russia did to Derek’s hand, and you didn’t want that to happen to you.  On the other hand had he not shown up you would’ve been beaten up by Derek and his boys.  Plus, you definitely didn’t want to be alone.
“Sure,” you answer, “Thank y-OU!”
You’re suddenly picked up by Russia bridal style.
“I’ll carry you,” Russia says pleasantly.
For heroic, he was certainly weird.
“By the way,” Russia speaks, “I really liked that you defended that kid earlier today, da.”
“Really?” you say in surprise, “Oh, that was nothing.”
“No, it wasn’t.  It was quite brave of you.”
“Well… thank you,” you say, blushing.
“You’re welcome,” Russia answered.

Just wanted to let you know "da" is Russian for "yes," and you're basically making Russia end his sentences with it. 😂
